At Attentive Eye Care Optometry, we have doctors who are specially trained, well-qualified, and experienced to provide care to patients as young as 6 months old to those who have picked up 60, 70, or even more birthday candles!
Why do our patients feel that they receive the BEST eye exam? What's done at your eye exam?
At our office, we feel that we provide one of the most comprehensive and thorough eye exam, if not the most comprehensive and thorough eye exam possible. The following is just a sampling of what we do:
Evaluate if you have any eye turn (strabismus)
Evaluate if you have a lazy eye (amblyopia)
Evaluate to see how well your eyes work together
Evaluate your color vision
Evaluate your depth perception (your ability to see 3D)
Evaluate your peripheral (side) vision
Measure the pressure of your eyes (we use a non-airpuff technology that is very accurate)
Evaluate your natural vision and determine if you have a prescription (a need for glasses and/or contacts). We have the technology that will measure your prescription with the utmost accuracy and for most patients, it allow us to determine the patient's prescription without having to go through the dreaded procedure where you have to decide which is better, 1 or 2? This technology also allow us to provide you with HIGH DEFINITION glasses so that you can see your entire world, not just your television, with high definition clarity!
Evaluate the health of the front in addition to the inside of the eyes (we have a digital retinal camera so we can take pictures of the inside of your eyes without having to use the dilating drops that affect your vision and we will review the photographs with you so YOU CAN SEE FOR YOURSELF just how healthy your eyes are)
Evaluate and treat dry eyes, allergies (itchy eyes), infection, inflammation, eyestrain, headaches associated with computer use, near work, and/or reading, etc.
Evaluate to determine if you are a good candidate for contact lenses and/or LASIK
As you can see, there's much more that goes on in an eye exam other than just determining if you need glasses or not. There's a misconception that just because you see well or that you have had LASIK or other eye surgeries done that you don't need to have your eyes examined. This misconception can be a very dangerous one as there are eye conditions such as ARMD, glaucoma, retinopathies, etc. which can lead to the loss of vision if not detected, managed, and/or treated early enough.
How often should you have your eyes examined?
It is recommended that patients have their eyes examined ANNUALLY (ONCE EVERY YEAR) so that changes in their prescription can be detected and updated so they can continue to see clearly and comfortably.
More importantly, the eyes should be examined every year so the doctor can evaluate the health of the eyes and detect any health problems at the earliest stages possible and it is these early detection that allow for earlier treatment which leads to better prognosis.
PREVENTATIVE CARE is a crucial element in maintaining your overall health, not just the health of your eyes.
Keep in mind one thing, the insurance companies are in business to make money and they too see the importance of their members being able to get annual eye exams which is why these insurance companies are willing to pay for your eye exams once every year. Take advantage of the FULL BENEFITS that you have paid for as it will only help you to maintain the health of your eyes so you can see clearly and comfortably for as long as you need!
